Something I’ve noticed in the last few months has been a sharp increase in emails that are written with sickening formality. “I truly hope that our paths will cross again in the near future. Your generosity and unwavering commitment inspire us to continue our efforts to make a meaningful difference… [this typically continues on for another five paragraphs or so]” I have also noticed that I cannot for the life of me get GPT to write emails that don’t suck. They always come out too much like the above, seemingly no matter the prompt. I am tempted to think that perhaps others have had the same idea as me, but had a lower bar for what they deemed acceptable to send. In principle, I’m fine with reading messages that GPT helped write, but I cannot stomach the way GPT writes. Please if you want to send me a message and feel compelled to use GPT, please just send me whatever you wrote in your prompt instead. I promise I will still read it!
